Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Commission Continues Its Studies

Afyonkarahisar Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Evaluation, Development and Organization Commission member Assist. Prof. Dr.Amir Soltanbeigi met with Emel Yıldız (Director of Afyonkarahisar Medical and Aromatic Plants Center), Instructor Sedef Özliman (Head of Medical and Aromatic Plants Department), Instructor Emine Kırbay and the administrators in İscehisar, Sultandağı and Bolvadin.

Established under the leadership of Governor Gökmen Çiçek to choose the right species and allocate a place for medicinal and aromatic plants, standard agricultural practices, post-harvest processes and supply-demand situations from a single center, Afyonkarahisar Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Evaluation, Development and Organization Commission, chaired by Prof. Dr. Nurullah Okumuş, visit the districts to determine the situation and determine the production plan.

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Okumuş emphasized the necessity of sustainable cultivation of high value-added medicinal and aromatic plants, taking into account the socio-economic structure of the regions, as well as drawing attention to agricultural drought and stressed that this risk should not be ignored in the steps to be taken by the commission.

Noting that the consultations will continue until all districts of Afyonkarahisar are visited, he said that after taking the opinions of all stakeholders, a feasibility report on the production and processing potential of high value-added medicinal and aromatic plants across the province would be prepared, and the roadmap for the steps to be taken in this regard would be shared with the public.

At the meeting held in İscehisar with the participation of İscehisar District Governor Uğur Kapar, District Agriculture and Forestry Director Ahmet Buğra Eberliköse and İscehisar Deputy Mayor Gülsefa Azgın, consultations were made on the varieties that can be invested in line with the status and production potential of the medicinal and aromatic plants currently produced in the district.

At the meeting held in Sultandağı with the participation of Sultandağı District Governor Murat Demirbilek, Mayor Mehmet Aldırmaz and District Agriculture and Forestry Director Halil İbrahim Önder, discussions were held on the planning of vegetation within the scope of combating drought and the projects that could be implemented were determined.

Another meeting was held in Bolvadin with the participation of Bolvadin District Governor Taner Bolat and District Agriculture and Forestry Director Rıfat Akşahan, discussions were held on the investments in medicinal and aromatic plants in Bolvadin and the steps that can be taken to encourage investors to this area and potential plant species that can be produced in the climatic conditions of the district.
