“We are excited to recruit AHSU’s first Faculty of Medicine graduates to the hospitals across the country.”

President Prof. Dr. Nurullah Okumuş said in his speech, “We are excited to recruit AHSU’s first Faculty of Medicine graduates to the hospitals across the country.” Reminding that the first graduates (the class of 2008) of the medical school, which admitted 39 students in 2002 for the first time, Prof. Dr. Okumuş said, “I would like you to know that our Faculty of Medicine has been refreshed by adding the strong energy of being a part of a thematic university in the field of health sciences to its accumulation based on years”, he said.

Prof. Dr. Okumuş said: “Because we see the education, research activities and health services we carry out at AHSU as the showcase of not only our university but also Afyonkarahisar and even our country. For this reason, we have striven to improve not only the physical infrastructure but also the academic quality of all our academic units, especially our Faculty of Medicine, and of course our hospital, since the foundation of AHSU.

“Your suggestions and requests will guide us.”

Stating that they are aware of students’ problems, Prof. Dr. Okumuş said, “I want you to know that I have examined each questionnaire you have filled out and all problems you have expressed and that I have read and analyzed your requests and the problems you have encountered during your internship. Addressing the parents attending the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Okumuş: “I wish you the rightful pride of being the parents of one of AHSU’s graduate physicians who will perform a sacred profession that will allow people to heal like medicine. I hope you live a life you are proud of your children. I wish you many more beauties and happiness with your children. ” said.

“Performing this profession is not something anyone can do”

Prof. Dr. Okumuş continued his words as follows: “My dear young colleagues, as members of a special profession, I am confident that you will do your best by improving yourself meticulously in your field. With your graduation, you have stepped up the medical education ladder. I would like to remind you that many steps are waiting for you in order to reach higher goals. In addition, do not forget that one of the most important features of the medical profession requires being equipped with up-to-date information at all times.

Medical education is one of the most challenging training in the world. Performing this profession is not something anyone can do. But you have succeeded in this challenging training and stepped into the medical profession. A career in medicine is one of the most serious and high-powered professions in the world.

The white coat you wear is a symbol of goodness, sacrifice, honesty, purity and cleanliness. However, do not forget that white is also the most easily dirty color. It is very important to keep the white coat clean in terms of professional ethics. For this reason, you should be careful not to stain the coat you wear throughout your life. You are now members of a profession with a lot of spiritual responses, even if you don’t get the full financial reward. Imagine that each of your patients is your mother, father, sibling, or child.

I know that there are too many problems with your profession and that you have demands waiting to be resolved. However, never let problems such as personal rights, financial rights and social rights prevent you from performing your profession in the best way possible. If you do so, love, respect and professional success will always be with you.

“Those who attack you do not know how big your heart is”

Dear young physicians and all healthcare professionals. I would like to emphasize a problem that hurts all of us. You are doctors as soldiers and heroes in the war despite being sleepless and on duty for hours, standing for the sake of the patient, continuing the treatment of the patient despite being unable to have dinner and starving. You are the person who treats a sick child brought to the emergency room while your child was also sick. And you are the person who continues to work to protect the health of other patients when the patient does not respond to the treatment or when he dies despite being away from your mother, sibling and wife.

Without knowing all this, those who attack you do not know how big your heart is. Those who hit you do not know how many lives you have saved. Those who swear at you do not know what you sacrificed. I strongly condemn the violence and attacks against you, and I wish the violence in health services to end as soon as possible.

“We are always ready to continue professional and academic cooperation with you.”

Once again, I congratulate your esteemed faculty members and very precious parents who have contributed to your training in AHSU for six years. I would like you to know that we are always ready to continue professional and academic cooperation with you in the following stages of your life. I wish you all success in your medical career and kiss your eyes. We gave you our blessing and you do so. May good fortune always be yours. May God be with you.”

After the speeches, newly graduated physicians recited the Hippocratic Oath with Prof. Dr. Dağıstan Tolga Arıöz. Dr. Miray Karamehmetoğlu, the highest-ranked student, Dr. Hilal Zilkar, the second highest-ranking student, and Dr. Zeynep Güngör, the third highest-ranking student, received their certificates. The graduation ceremony has ended with the ceremony of throwing caps of the new doctors after the award of “The Most Successful Intern Doctor in Emergency Medicine Internship” given by the Emergency Medicine Specialists Association has been presented to Dr. Ahmet Koçak.
