Our Academic Units and Staff Expand

Prof. Dr. Nurullah Okumuş, who  showed the innovations on the spot and answered the questions of the press, stated that the transfer process was completed on February 18, 2019 by reminding that he started his duty on September 17, 2018. Prof. Dr. Nurullah Okumuş who notes that AFSU has four faculties, three vocational schools, four application and research centers, said that the Oral and Dental Health Application and Research Center will be operational soon.

Underlining that they achieved a remarkable increase in the number of students, Prof. Dr. Nurullah Okumuş stated that they have made necessary initiatives to open new departments in AFSU in the upcoming period.

Prof. Dr. Nurullah Okumuş said, “We want to open new departments in the coming period. We currently have 6 thousand 628 students, 418 academicians and 1247 staff. Last year, 1500 new students came to us, while 628 of our students graduated. While 20 staff members were leaving us, we immediately replaced them and recruited 52 academic staff. Currently 7-8 more academic staff will come. We still have 34 staff rights.”

We Will Undertake Important Works Regarding Local Pharmaceutical Production

Emphasizing that they are working meticulously for the development of AFSU Hospital, Prof. Dr. Nurullah Okumuş stated that by purchasing medical supplies and fixtures worth 20 million Turkish liras, they brought the best quality machines to the AFSU medical device track, thus making a permanent investment for more qualified health service.

“Universities need to stand on their own feet.” Underlining that they do not want AFSU to be a standard university, Prof. Dr. Nurullah Okumuş said that with the AFSU Technology Transfer Office, which became operational, they aimed to undertake important domestic production works in the field of health. Prof. Dr. Nurullah Okumuş continued his words as follows: “For example, you have a cancer, now a special medicine is produced for you. But a single dose is $ 5 million. I also presented this to our Council of the higher education board. It was also reported in the press recently. The President of the Council of Higher Education also called us and they trusted us and supported this issue.

I opened a Faculty of Pharmacy, but I will not train a classical pharmacist. I do not want to train pharmacy journeymen who will work as a journeyman with a pharmacist with a diploma after graduation,  and open a pharmacy after 3 years if they find money and space. My pharmacist should take the theoretical course while studying at school, do her work in the laboratory, do her scientific research at the R&D center and work in my factory while leaving. They should graduate in the field as a true pharmacist, that is, a pharmacist who can make medicine. About 3 weeks ago there was a meeting about future professions. There were sector representatives there. Pharmaceutical representatives said that that they always raise employees in their factories. Because when we recruit graduates of the pharmacy faculty, you put them in the factory as if they came to a planet that they never knew.

Because it has no connection with the field. For this reason, for the first time we are establishing a Pharmacy Application Research Center in our pharmacy faculty, which has a separate management. We changed our training program in that way. We will do the last year of the Faculty of Pharmacy as Intern Pharmacy. Last year, she will work only 6 months as clinics and 6 months as factory fields, 12 months as an intern. We want to train real pharmacists on the field. Chairmanship of the higher education board supported this decision 100 percent. ” Stating that Afyonkarahisar urgently needs an oral and dental hospital, Prof. Dr. Nurullah Okumuş stated that the Physical Therapy Department is working at full capacity and there is a need for a Physical Therapy Hospital with a bed capacity of 250-300.

Giving the good news that a guest house was built within AFSU, Prof. Dr. Nurullah Okumuş said “Our university accepts many patients from outside. Our nationwide recognition is extremely good. We will build a guesthouse based on this. We will establish a perfect facility. In the new year, we will lay the foundations of our guesthouse, which will be built with four floors and 64 rooms. “

The meeting, where Prof. Dr. Nurullah Okumuş made a detailed presentation about the projects, activities, innovations signed and corporate goals carried out at AFSU, ended with the answers given to the questions of the press members.
