Our Ukrainian Patient Gets Healthy at AHSU

Our Ukrainian patient, Aziz Arifdzhanov, who had repeated nose surgeries in Russia and various countries but whose complaints did not improve, regained his health with the operation performed in AFSU Medical Faculty Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases (ENT) Clinic.

Despite the fact that the cartilage tissue to be used in nose repair is very small due to the severe curvature and collapse of the nasal bone due to the previous five operations, he started to breathe in a healthy way again with the surgery performed by, Assoc. Dr. Orhan Kemal Kahveci and Dr. Faculty Member Çağlar Günebakan.

Faculty Members of AFSÜ Faculty of Medicine, Department of Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases Assoc. Dr. Kahveci and Dr. Günebakan said that they obtained the tissues necessary for the correction of nasal breathing with aesthetic surgery techniques and that the nasal structure, which had collapsed due to previous surgical operations, was reshaped with these tissues.

Revision Surgery Requires Skill and Experience

Pointing out that this type of surgery, which is performed by ENT physicians and is extremely difficult, requires aesthetic surgery skills and experience, Assoc. Dr. Kahveci made statements about patients who had undergone surgery due to nasal congestion. Stating that reoperating a patient who has undergone nasal surgery is called revision surgery, Assoc. Dr. Kahveci drew attention to the fact that revision surgery is extremely difficult operations due to adhesions, cartilage and bone tissue losses and intranasal punctures due to previous surgical operations.

Assoc. Dr. Kahveci said that there may be a collapse in the nose due to the excessive losses in cartilage and that cartilage should be brought to the collapsed area from another region in order to correct this collapse. Stating that this cartilage is usually obtained from the patient’s ear or rib cartilage, Assoc. Dr. Kahveci noted that the aforementioned procedures provide a good amount of cartilage tissue, but this procedure also causes difficulties such as making an incision in a different area and pain and scar formation in that area. Assoc. Dr. For this reason, Kahveci said that they used the tissues inside the nose as much as possible in their operations.
