The book written by AFSU Academicians to guide physicians in the diagnosis of diseases has been published

AFSU academicians continue to carry out scientific studies. Prepared as a guide for physician candidates and young physicians, the book titled “Anamnesis and Physical Examination (Anatomy Textbook)” consists of 333 pages and a total of eighteen chapters contributed by academicians from fourteen different departments.

Academicians from the Faculty of Medicine have signed another work that will contribute to the development of future physicians. The book was prepared as a guide for physician candidates to help them obtain information from adults about their diseases, learn how to conduct an adult patient examination and how to make a diagnosis from physical examination findings. In addition, basic anatomy information was added in the sections deemed necessary in order to consolidate the topics.

Carrying out the preparation process of the book, Assist. Prof. Dr. Erhan Bozkurt (Faculty of Medicine, Department of Internal Diseases) and Assist. Prof. Dr. Emre Atay (Faculty of Medicine, Department of Anatomy) shared the following information in the preface of the book: “A physician must have sufficient knowledge and equipment to perform his/her profession in the best way possible. Medicine is a profession that cannot be compensated for mistakes. For this reason, it requires a long and arduous education and training process. For a physician, this process is not limited to medical school, it continues for a lifetime.

Anamnesis and physical examination are the two basic building blocks of the medical profession. Even if the physician is not aware of it, the physical examination begins when he/she meets the patient. With the anamnesis, the physician makes the preliminary diagnosis. With the detailed physical examination after the anamnesis, the number of pre-diagnoses is reduced and the necessary laboratory and imaging requests are made in order to reach a diagnosis. A good physician can establish the diagnosis with anamnesis and physical examination findings, often without the need for additional laboratory or imaging methods. The way to successful treatment is primarily correct diagnosis.

This book has been prepared with the contributions of our esteemed professors in order to reduce laboratory and imaging-oriented medicine which is becoming increasingly widespread today. Additionally, it is aimed to present anamnesis and physical examination information which is the basis of medicine to our valuable physician candidates and young physicians in order to make them look at the patient and the disease from a broad perspective. Differential diagnosis and clinical significance of physical examination findings are included in this book. This book has become a necessity so that your education will not be interrupted during the pandemic period we have been through since March 2020.

One of the crucial subjects of basic medical sciences is anatomy. In our book, we have added basic anatomy information in the sections deemed necessary in order to consolidate the topics and make them more understandable. Thus, we aimed to help students use both anatomy and clinical information together during the practice of the profession of medicine.

We believe that the book “Anamnesis and Physical Examination (Anatomy Textbook)”, which consists of eighteen chapters and is contributed by academicians from fourteen different departments, will be an important guide to our esteemed physician candidates and young physicians.”
