207 young physicians took their oaths and stepped into the profession at the 15th Term Graduation Ceremony of AFSU Faculty of Medicine.
Our Rector Prof. Dr. Nurullah Okumuş and our Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Adem Aslan and Prof. Dr. Ümit Dündar, Deputy Governor of Afyonkarahisar Mehmet Keklik, Mayor Mehmet Zeybek, AKÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karakaş, President of the Bar Association Atty. Turgay Şahin, Provincial Health Director, Exp. Dr. Serhat Korkmaz, our managers, academic and administrative staff, young physicians and their valuable families attended to the ceremony held at Atatürk Congress Center.
The ceremony, which started with a moment of silence and the National Anthem, continued with a video and slide show prepared by our students. Then, the opening speech of the ceremony, which proceeded with the performance of the İnce Efeler Folk Dance Group, was delivered by the Medical Faculty Student Representative Dr. Seval Ayekin. Then the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Necip Becit expressed his happiness and pride in bringing our 207 young doctors into their professional lives. Prof. Dr. Becit wished our young doctors success in their professional lives and also thanked the families of our graduates and academicians of the department for their support, efforts and devoted work.
Afterwards, Prof. Dr. Okumus started his speech by reminding the global epidemic that we have experienced recently. Prof. Dr. Okumuş referred to the dedication of our doctors and health workers in the fight against the epidemic and commemorated our scientists and health workers who lost their lives. Prof. Dr. Okumuş expressed that he was proud of our graduates, and he also did not neglect to give advice to our young physicians about their professional lives. He pointed to violence in health and reminded those who still perpetrate violence despite all the regulations of our state that physicians are primarily human beings. He emphasized the necessity of showing the necessary respect to our healthcare workers who perform their duties with great sacrifice regardless of working hours and he stated that educated physicians did not kill but save lives and did their best in the light of science and within the framework of possibilities. Prof. Dr. Okumuş expressed that our graduates are soldiers of a profession as old and sublime as the history of humanity and concluded his speech by congratulating our esteemed families and teachers who trained our physicians.
Finally, Deputy Governor of Afyonkarahisar Mehmet Keklik took the floor to give a speech. He stated that AFSU has made significant contributions to the improvement of the quality of health services in our country and he stated that medicine is the highest of services and the most universal of professions, and wished our young doctors a successful professional life.
Graduation plaques and certificates of achievement were given to our students who ranked high after the speeches. Our top student of the term Dr. Gülden Nur Zeren was presented her award and diploma by our Deputy Governor Mehmet Keklik. Our second top student of the term Dr. Muhammet Mustafa Mazlum was presented his award and diploma by our Mayor Mehmet Zeybek. Our third top of the term Dr. Ece Esra Akkaman was presented her award and diploma by our Rector Prof. Dr. Okumuş.
