Our AFSU Graduate Student Speaks at the Turkish Maarif Foundation Graduation Ceremony

Sharafat Batur, a graduate of AFSU Faculty of Health Sciences (SBF), made a speech at the 2021-2022 Graduation Ceremony of the Turkish Maarif Foundation (TMF). Stating that the four-year education period in Afyonkarahisar is a ladder that takes her to her goals, Batur stated that  she has goals beyond imagination and that she learned to look at the world from a different perspective here.

In the program held at TMF Headquarters, a ceremony was held for 21 undergraduate and graduate students for the 2021-2022 academic year. The President of the Turkish Maarif Foundation Prof. Dr. Birol Akgün, members of the board of trustees, board of directors and supervisory board, heads of departments, country representatives, graduate students and guests attended.

Speaking on behalf of the graduate students at the event, Sharafat Batur started her speech by stating that she has been in Turkey since 2017 as a graduate of TMV Habibe Kadri High School in Afghanistan, and said that she graduated from AFSU SBF Nursing Department this year.

Batur said: “I always felt that I was in a privileged position compared to my peers who received university education in my own country. Studying here has allowed me to breathe a different world and meet students from all over the world who have come to Turkey.

Getting an education in Turkey means learning to be organized, to cooperate and to do business together. All these processes make you feel like an individual. As an individual, I can say that I learned to look at things from a different perspective in Turkey.

Studying in Turkey is a very valuable experience as an international student. In fact, this is the first time I have experienced the services provided by the state to people and different academic, commercial and civil structures in this country. My most important gain in the education and training process in this country was to have self-confidence. Of course, as a woman, knowing and developing herself, being able to stand on her own feet, seeing the values that a woman can add to and can take from a society have also been an important gain for me.

I sincerely believe that with the education we have received, some of us as nurses, some as engineers, some as teachers, and some as academics, we will work not only for the sake of our countries but also for the well-being, peace, welfare and development of the world, in line with the education and ideals given to us.”

Our student Batur finished her speech by thanking the Ministry of National Education, the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities, the Turkish Maarif Foundation and AFSU, which support international students in every aspect both financially and morally.

The ceremony continued with a music concert, graduation registrar ceremony, pennant delivery ceremony, plaque and gift presentation, and ended with a souvenir photo shoot.
