Our Rector Prof. Dr. Nurullah Okumuş represented the AFSU community in the programs held in Afyonkarahisar on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Great Victory, in which President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also attended.
Reminding that this homeland is the work of our nation’s total struggle, Prof. Dr. Okumuş said: “We will continue to protect these lands forever, inspired by the sacrifice and determination of struggle of our ancestors.
I commemorate Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who gave us the 30 August Victory, which lit the torch of independence of the Republic of Turkey, and all our martyrs and veterans who made this land a homeland with their lives, and I congratulate the holiday of our beloved nation.
Weapons Tools and Equipment Tools Exhibition Attracted Great Interest
The Great Offensive Victory Week, which has an important place in the history of our nation and is celebrated with great enthusiasm and pride every year, witnessed much wider events this year due to its 100th anniversary. The activities, which started with the “TAF Warfare, Weapons Tools and Equipment Exhibition” on Wednesday, August 24, ended with the “Victory Monument Ceremonial Ground Activities” in Zafertepe on Tuesday, August 30.
With the support of the Ministry of National Defense, Afyonkarahisar Governorship, Afyonkarahisar Municipality and Turkish Aeronautical Association in cooperation with the Afyonkarahisar Airport Command for the first time, the “TAF Warfare, Weapons, Equipment and Equipment Exhibition”, as well as the “100th Anniversary Exhibition of the Great Attack” and Anadolu Agency’s “Victory Military Mehmetçik Photography Exhibition”.
Within the scope of the program, in addition to the land, naval and air forces and elements of the Turkish Aeronautical Association, Turkish Stars also performed static and dynamic air shows.
Those Who Participated in the Victory Parade Go Back 100 Years
As part of the celebrations, events were also held in Kocatepe, where Atatürk led and directed the Great Offensive, and in Şuhut, where his headquarters is located. Vice President Fuat Oktay also attended these events. Participants from different provinces marched to Kocatepe with Turkish flags in the Victory March, which was held on the route where Turkish armies marched from Çakırözü Village to Kocatepe. Reaching Kocatepe in the morning, the citizens visited the Atatürk Monument and 100 guns were fired at 05.00, when the Great Offensive started 100 years ago.
Award-winning photographs in the photography contest organized for the 4th time this year on behalf of Ethem Tem, who also owns the famous photograph of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk taken in Kocatepe, were showcased in the photography exhibition opened in Taş Madrasa as part of the Great Offensive Victory Week celebrations.
Gendarmerie Demonstrations Received Applause in Liberation Day Celebration
The International Victory People’s March cortege was held with great enthusiasm this year as well. Governor Assoc. Dr. Kübra Güran Yiğitbaşı, provincial protocol, guest generals, teams and citizens from 8 different countries in our city for the International Victory Folk Dance Festival, the march started from Taş Madrasa and continued on Bankalar Street and ended in Zafer Square.
As part of the events, the Liberation Day Celebration Program was held in Zafer Square on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Afyonkarahisar’s liberation from enemy occupation on August 27, 2022. In the event where poems were read and international folk dance teams performed, the armed movements of the Gendarmerie General Command Ceremony Team received great applause.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan arrived in Afyonkarahisar on 29 August 2022 to attend the 100th Anniversary Celebrations of the Great Offensive and the Mass Opening Ceremony. Vice President Fuat Oktay, Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum, Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu, Minister of Trade Mehmet Muş, Presidential Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, Governor Assoc. Dr. Kübra Güran Yiğitbaşı, Deputies, directors of institutions and many citizens attended.
Organized in cooperation with AKÜ and the Turkish Historical Society (TTK), with the contributions of the Presidency of Communications, Afyonkarahisar Governorship and Afyonkarahisar Municipality, the “100. The International Great Offensive and the Battle of the Commander-in-Chief Symposium” was held at Atatürk Congress Center. It started with the opening conference of İlber Ortaylı with the moderating of TTK President Prof. Dr. Birol Çetin.
Wreaths were presented at Kocatepe Park Atatürk Monument. Subsequently, the Governor Assoc. Dr. Kübra Güran Yiğitbaşı accepted the 30 August Victory Day congratulations in her office. The 100th Anniversary celebration activities of the Great Offensive Victory Week, which was held with the intense participation of the citizens, were completed with the Acceptance Ceremony of Governor Yiğitbaşı at the Korel Thermal Hotel.
