Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Nurullah Okumuş, our Vice-Rector, Prof. Dr. Adem Aslan, and members of AFSU participated in the events held in Afyonkarahisar, the key city of the National Struggle and the city where the foundations of the Republic were laid, as part of the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of our Republic.
During the wreath-laying ceremony at the Atatürk Monument, our Vice-Rector, Prof. Dr. Adem Aslan, represented our university. In the ceremony at Kocatepe Park, Governor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kübra Güran Yiğitbaşı, Afyonkarahisar Member of Parliament Lawyer İbrahim Yurdunuseven, Logistics and Garrison Commander Brigadier General Numan Yöner, Mayor Mehmet Zeybek, Chief Public Prosecutor of the Republic Fatih Karabacak, military officials, regional and provincial directors, veterans, and students were present.
After welcoming the protocol members and students and wishing them happy holidays, Governor Yiğitbaşı presented the Governorship wreath to the Atatürk Monument. Following Governor Yiğitbaşı, the Garrison Command wreath was presented by Brigadier General Numan Yöner, and the Municipality wreath was presented by Mayor Mehmet Zeybek. The ceremony ended with a minute of silence in memory of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, our martyrs, and veterans, and the singing of our National Anthem.
As part of the 100th-anniversary celebrations in Afyonkarahisar, our faculty members participated in the 100th Anniversary Torchlight Procession. AFSÜ academicians, like thousands of citizens and Afyonkarahisar Governor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kübra Güran Yiğitbaşı, marched from Kurtuluş Avenue to the front of the Anıtpark with Turkish flags and torches in their hands.
Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Nurullah Okumuş, attended the congratulatory ceremony where Governor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kübra Güran Yiğitbaşı received holiday greetings in her office. After the ceremony in the governorship office, Prof. Dr. Okumuş also participated in the Republic Day celebrations held in Zafer Square. The festivities reached their peak with gymnastic and folk dance performances, while the music concert and parade were followed with great interest by the citizens.
