Our students attended a seminar on “Depression and Future Anxiety” organized by the AFSU Psychological Counseling and Guidance (PCG) Commission, where depressive disorders, which are mental and psychological conditions affecting behavior by creating feelings of sadness, were discussed from various perspectives.
The seminar, held by Dr. Çağla Çelikkol Sadıç from the AFSU Department of Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Diseases, took place in the Blue Hall of the Faculty of Medicine. Among the attendees were Şuhut Vocational School Deputy Director Instructor Kevser Pamuk, AFSU Coordinator of Combatting Violence Against Women Coordination Committee Dr. Jale Akgöl, AFSU PCG Commission members including Filiz Özden Yılmaz from the Health, Culture, and Sports Department and Instructor Ömer Faruk Akbulut, alongside numerous students.
Dr. Sadıç emphasized in her speech that future anxiety is a natural emotional state, especially prevalent among students, and the important thing is not allowing this anxiety to dictate our lives. She mentioned that uncertainty, perfectionism, negative experiences, social comparison, and lack of communication trigger future anxiety. Dr. Sadıç also highlighted the importance of goal setting and planning, positive thinking, social support, balanced nutrition, and adequate sleep in coping with stress.
Dr. Sadıç cautioned against the use of non-prescribed medication by individuals suspected of experiencing depressive disorders, emphasizing the importance of consulting a psychotherapist or psychiatrist for continuous and unmanageable future anxiety, and the necessity of prescribed medication.
The event concluded with SKS Department Head Filiz Özden Yılmaz presenting Dr. Sadıç with a certificate of appreciation and a group photo.
